Panther is good, but she can’t swim.

Not often a story about one of our trips comes in just a couple of paragraphs with no photos or catastrophes. But here we are.

March was the month our trip to the Simpson Desert was planned. We ended up with about eight vehicles coming with us to make good on promises to relatives and friends. In the weeks leading up kick off we were glued to about 27 weather sites, all at odds with each other as to our chances of making a successful crossing unscathed.

Ultimately, nature had yet another convincing win with flooding being so severe we made the decision to cancel the entire adventure till 2027 or later.

We stumbled over our bottom lips at the thought of missing out on seeing water in Cooper Creek near Mungerannie, let alone not getting the once in a life time opportunity to barge it across this iconic waterway. We were saddened in the knowledge we would miss the desert in its finest greenery, yet good sense had to prevail.

Having finally come to terms with the phrase ‘next year’ we settled back into our lives looking forward to having another go when the time is right.
